FAQs

You will be expected to begin working with clients once you have completed the part 1 of the training. In this part of the training, it will be discussed with you what sort of client is suitable and how to safely gain experience of working with EMDR.

The criteria for EMDR Training is set out by The EMDR European Association and The EMDR Association of the U.K. Being a brief training course, (8 days) the association wishes to ensure that the basic teaching regarding therapy skills are already in place for the participant. We recognise that there are many therapists that are skilled but do not have accreditation or a core mental health profession. As an approved provider whose course is ratified by EMDR Europe we are unable to train people outside of the criteria. All EMDR accredited trainers follow the same criteria.

Training with a company who is not accredited with EMDR UK and Europe means that the course content cannot be supported by the Association as thorough and complete and restricts access to membership of the EMDR Association. This will restrict being accredited as a practitioner or consultant in the future should that be the participants goal. EMDR Accredited Trainers have undertaken a process to demonstrate competence and knowledge to the highest standard and continue to do so in order to keep their accreditations personally and for the course they provide.

If you or your accredited body wish to appeal to the Association to be recognised in the eligibility criteria you will need to do so in writing via email directly to the EMDR Association.

Once you have completed the online application form, The Mindsync team will process it. If everything is provided to meet the criteria, they will contact your employer with an invoice to make payment. Confirmation of the course place is received once has been agreed. If the employer is NHS often they will generate a purchase order for their accounts system. Mindsync EMDR will add the information to the invoice and seek payment. The payment may of course be slightly delayed whilst this process is ongoing. Mindsync EMDR Training is a small company and requires payment to be made for the course as soon as is possible.

You do not have to book all 4 parts together but we recommend it. Experience shows us that the momentum for learning and retaining the knowledge keeps the participant going. Long gaps in training can reduce the confidence of the participant. You can move to a different location if there is availability on that course. There may be a charge if you need to cancel or change locations once you have made your bookings.

Please refer to the terms and conditions or contact the team at [email protected]

Do I have to complete all 4 parts within a set time frame?

You can delay the attendance of the parts of the training and lengthen the duration of your course. We would not recommend this as usual practice as confidence and information is lost without practice and completing the training. Each part of the training builds upon your knowledge and skills from the last training. Completing parts 1 & 2 only limits your learning and application to therapy. There is no set stipulated time frame to complete the course.

At Mindsync EMDR Training we want to provide the best quality training experience possible. We believe that having the opportunity to ask questions, explore participants client groups and make the training as relatable to the participants work practice enables this. We want the training environment to be comfortable and encouraging so that participants can interact to ensure that they to engage and develop skills of EMDR Therapy. The trainers are known for their relatability, helpfulness, warmth and authenticity. We believe this is best achieved when learning is smaller groups.

The course has been ratified by EMDR Europe accounting for so many hours of teaching, practice hours and supervision. 100% attendance of all parts of the training is required to complete the course. It is not possible to read up in own time to complete the course. In the event of unexpected emergencies influencing your training participation please contact the Mindsync Team. We will do all we can to support you to find ways to complete the course appropriately.

Please refer to the terms and conditions regarding cancellations and charges

EMDR Association Europe and EMDR Association UK have guidelines regarding training people who are practicing abroad.

The basics are :

– If an association exists in the country the participant resides/practices in the participant must first seek training in that country- If there is a reason why it is not possible to train in that country (eg language etc) they can seek another approved training outside that country. A letter from the EMDR Association (from the country they reside/practice in) supporting the access of the Mindsync training course is required to be able to proceed.

-The participant is responsible to ensure that they meet their countries laws, guidelines or requirements and or restrictions (some countries have various registers and restrictions). providing psychological therapy in their country. for

– the participant has responsibility to ensure that they have the correct indemnity insurance to work in the chosen country.

In the first part of the training, we will explore who you work with and what sort of work you can begin with using EMDR. We will look to identify with you, areas of work that enable the client to have an experience of EMDR (like a trial of EMDR) to help build their and your confidence with the therapy. To complete the training, you will need to have worked with a minimum of 3 clients over the course of the training (processing memories with them). They do not need to have been discharged from your service in this time. You will need to build your knowledge and experience with EMDR before working with the Clients most complex needs and presentations.

Mindsync EMDR Training provides the foundation (generic) training. Anyone working with children can attend however we do not recommend working with EMDR with anyone younger than 14 years old during this stage of the training. There are two further trainings (child focused trainings) that you can later attend (you need to have attended the foundation training prior to applying for the child training). The foundation training is titrated to build upon basic knowledge to work with more complexity as the model, approaches and opportunities are learnt and developed. With this in mind, at Mindsync we recommend completing the foundation training prior to engaging on additional trainings as they may introduce elements of adaptations to ways of working that have not yet been covered upon the foundation training. The EMDR Child and Adolescent Committee have recommendations (not restrictions/rules) regarding the level of supervvision they would encourage. These details are available at the EMDR Association website.

You can attend the training when pregnant. You are responsible for considering timing for undertaking a course etc when booking the course. There is a participatory element of the training where you will process memories, experiences or anxieties that have an emotional charge to them however are not of a high level and we encourage you to take extra care when selecting areas of your experiences forprocessing. Please make the training team aware that you are pregnant so that we can support you in this.

You can attend the training if you have epilepsy. EMDR is possible for people whose epilepsy is stable and well managed. Please advise the team of your epilepsy so we can best support you when learning and practicing EMDR.

If you have any significant health concerns that may influence the training we suggest you contact the training team to explore this before applying for the course. In the training we are working with memories, experiences or anxieties that do not have a high level of distress or charge. We wish to ensure that you can safely practice and engage in all areas of the course.

EMDR is recommended by NICE for PTSD however there is much evidence for the use of EMDR as a therapy for many other needs/experiences. Your client’s do not have to have PTSD for your to practice EMDR. If your service restricts the use of EMDR to PTSD you can still attend the course and you can choose how and who to work with EMDR in your area of practice with your service. We recognise that trauma is experienced by people who are still affected by adverse experiences from the past. Many different situations and experiences may constitute trauma for an individual.

You will need to process memories with a minimum of 3 clients by part 4 of the training. They do not need to be discharged from your service.

The course provides supervision elements that ensure that the basic training has landed with you and you are able to begin to transfer the learning into your clinical practice. The supervision overall on the course amounts to 10 hours and will later be useful to you should you seek accreditation. Mindsync EMDR Training team must stipulate that the supervision on the course is not sufficient to manage your clinical caseload. It is highly recommended and desired by the training team that you ensure that you have access to clinical supervision (the form of which can vary – group/individual/accredited/non accredited/consultant) to ensure that you have adequate support. Peer supervision is valuable but not at the expense of an experienced supervisor. The EMDR Association have guidelines for supervision

It is important that you contact your insurance indemnity provider to ensure that your EMDR therapy provision is included in your practice.

It is possible to continue your EMDR Training if you have begun with another training company. It is recommended that you contact the Mindsync EMDR Training team by email to check this. Mindsync EMDR Training may have an element in part 2 that the other trainers may provide later. If this is the case an additional arrangement to ensure that you are at the same level as the other participants may be required.

The EMDR Association UK advises that during training you are considered an EMDR Trainee therapist. Once you have completed parts 1-4 you can be recognised as an EMDR Therapist. As with all types of therapy, regular supervision and CPD is recommended to support and build upon your skills and ensure the best quality therapy for your client. Once you have completed the course you can if you wish begin working towards becoming an EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner. This is a competency based/evidence accreditation. This is not currently a requirement but is recommended. Following An accredited practitioner one can work to become an EMDR accredited Europe Consultant, then EMDR Europe Approved Training Facilitator and EMDR Europe Approved Trainer. Further information regarding these possibilities can be found on the EMDR Association UK website
