What is covered in the standard  EMDR training for therapists?

All Accredited EMDR training for therapists in the UK is regulated and Accredited by EMDR Europe and subsequently there is a tight criteria about what needs to be covered in the training. In our standard EMDR training we are introducing EMDR and teaching our delegates all the basic knowledge and skills you will need to start your EMDR journey. At Mindsync EMDR training for therapists our course is split into 4 parts. There has to be a minimum of 8 weeks between your Part 1 and 2 to allow you time to practice your EMDR skills.  Here is what we cover in all 4 parts.

Part 1: Foundational Exploration (3 days) of EMDR Training

  • Delve into history: Discover the origins and evolution of EMDR therapy.
  • Unravel the mechanism: Explore the theories behind how EMDR facilitates healing.
  • Master the protocol: Learn all 8 phases of the standard EMDR protocol in detail.
  • Supervised application: Apply your learnings through practising with your peers as clients.
  • Supervision receive expert guidance and supervision on how you can start using EMDR with the clients you work with.

Part 2: Refining Your Skills (1 day online)

  • Refresh your knowledge: Recap the EMDR model and solidify your understanding of the 8 phases.
  • Navigate processing challenges: Learn strategies to help clients overcome obstacles and blocks during trauma processing.
  • Unlock cognitive interweaves: Master this technique to enhance therapeutic outcomes and help your clients when they get stuck with processing.
  • Supervision: Integrate your learnings into your therapy sessions with confidence.

Part 3: Expanding Your Expertise (3 days) of EMDR Training

  • Tackle diverse presentations: Address common issues like anxiety, depression, pain, and grief using EMDR.
  • Explore specialised protocols: Learn additional protocols for specific clinical situations.
  • Navigate complex trauma: Equip yourself to support clients with intricate presentations and histories, including a detailed exploration of working with dissociation.
  • Empower your clients: Gain a toolbox of effective techniques to help your clients heal and thrive.

Part 4: Continued Support (half-day)

  • Share your experiences: Discuss successes and challenges you encounter with your clients.
  • Receive personalised feedback: Benefit from further expert guidance and supervision.

We want you to leave equipped with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to empower your clients on their healing journey through EMDR therapy.

You have to complete all 4 parts of the training and have worked with at least 3 clients using EMDR reprocessing (Phases 3 – 7) to get a certificate of completion and to become an EMDR therapist.

Who are we at Mindsync EMDR Training

Caroline van Diest – our Senior trainer. Having started her career as a learning disabilities nurse in the NHS, she trained initially in CBT before starting her EMDR journey. Caroline has worked for many years delivering EMDR training for therapists. She is the co-founder of Mindsync EMDR Training. She is a dynamic trainer, with an interest in storytelling. Caroline likes our delegates to have a clear understanding of EMDR. She will use a lot of clinical examples and story telling in her teaching. There is never a dull moment when Caroline is teaching!

Caroline has a special interest in working with neurodiversity, when she is not delivering training Caroline sees clients for 1-1 work as well as running many supervision sessions and fitting in the odd pottery class!

Dr Hannah Bryan – is our Facilitator and trainee Trainer. She started her career in the NHS as a Clinical Psychologist. Hannah worked in secondary mental health services. She started her EMDR journey in 2005 and has seen the positive impact EMDR has on clients where other types of therapy seemed very slow going. 

She is the co-founder of Mindsync EMDR training. Hannah has worked as a training Facilitator since 2019 and is really passionate about supporting delegates to grow their confidence and skill in EMDR.Hannah has a special interest in using EMDR within a coaching framework, she also sees clients struggling with their mental health due to their past experiences as well as providing supervision in EMDR.
